Job Description

Reporting to the GIS Applications Team Lead, the prime responsibilities of the GIS Applications Technical Analyst are the support and enhancements of the GIS applications in use in Uisce Éireann. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be part of a team which ensures the availability and smooth running of GIS applications and related services across Uisce Éireann and the relevant business partners, including the resolution of issues and relevant escalation
  • Supporting the design, development, modification and maintenance of the GIS systems, working with the Applications Build & Delivery team as appropriate, with a particular focus on ensuring the technical aspects of the GIS systems are configured and implemented according to best practices
  • Testing of new and updated GIS functionality as well as systems integration testing in conjunction with other application analysts
  • Supporting the Applications Build & Delivery team with GIS projects through all phases from initiation to completion, with a particular focus on the technical aspects of the project
  • Management of the GIS incident queue on Service Now including incident reporting and Analysis
  • Part of the Uisce Éireann GIS Resolver Group, with a particular focus on the resolution of technical issues
  • Supporting the maintenance of GIS Environments; Development, Testing, Acceptance, Production
  • Supporting the configuration and administration of GIS Groups
  • Defining, promoting and enforcing strong governance including applications, security and company standards 
  • Participating in IT project teams as necessary and engagement with the Project Management Office 
  • Liaising with relevant business areas such as Customer Operations and the Call Centre, Asset Management, and Asset Operations 
  • Liaising with external resource/service providers, e.g. Ordnance Survey, Geodirectory 
  • Developing an understanding of business processes and work closely with the various business areas to develop and implement solutions that meet their business requirements
  • Adherence to IT development procedures and standards
  • Keeping abreast of enhancements to GIS systems and services as well as the wider IT industry 
  • Provide out-of-hours cover as part of the Standby Rota as required.

General Duties and Reponsiblities:

  • Collaboration with key internal stakeholders across the UÉ business, including but not limited to; 
  • Wider IT Teams, notably Service Management and Build & Delivery Teams
  • GIS Users
  • Project Team members across various business units
  • Responsible for promoting and delivering health and safety commitments across UÉ and its supply chain, reinforcing positive behaviours and delivering health and safety objectives and requirements to the highest industry standards.
  • Support the delivery of the Uisce Éireann Transformation Programme, driving results required within the Directorate and supporting organisation-wide objectives.
  • Other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • 3+ years of technical implementation and support experience with GIS systems is desirable
  • Relevant third level qualification and or accreditation is desirable.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in the water, utilities or similar industries is desirable and or relevant experience.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective partnerships with key stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Proven track record with dealing with complex issues, proactively and in a timely fashion along with the ability to communicate information to others.
  • Highly motivated individual, working to the highest professional standards and with proven ability to deliver results within a team.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to identify and analyse problems and potential improvements, and propose and implement solutions.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and the ability to change focus and direction in line with business strategy and requirements.
  • Proactively identifying new areas of improvement and using newly gained knowledge and skill on the job.
