Job Overview

The Environmental Microbiologist will be primarily responsible for the analysis of data obtained from environmental monitoring of the pharmaceutical production cleanroom areas. This data includes microbial contamination levels from air and surface sampling and control parameters for cleanroom operating conditions such as differential pressure and air velocities.

Main Activities/Tasks:
  • Assessment of environmental monitoring data and compiling the necessary reports and risk assessments required for product batch release.
  • Investigating out-of-trend/specification results.
  • Risk assessment of aseptically filled products.
  • Preparation and revision of technical documents.
  • Identification of bacterial, fungal and yeast colonies recovered from aseptic cleanrooms.
Essential Criteria:

Applicants must therefore demonstrate the following essential criteria on their application form in order to be considered:
  • Educated to at least a degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant Science or Engineering related field OR a minimum of 3 years recent pharmaceutical industry experience in a Quality related role.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical cleanroom design and operation.
  • Experience of assisting with investigations into non-conformances.
  • Experience of troubleshooting and evidence of problem-solving skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft software packages, in particular Microsoft Access, Excel and Word.
  • Self-motivated; able to work on own initiative as well as part of a busy team to meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable Criteria:

Due to the nature of the role preference will be given to applicants demonstrating the following desirable criteria:
  • Practical experience of microbial identification techniques up to species level.
  • Practical experience of data analysis.
  • BSc in Microbiology or a degree subject with a Microbiology component.
  • Experience of writing technical documents.
  • Good knowledge of regulatory requirements in relation to aseptic processing.
  • Practical experience of environmental monitoring sampling techniques.
Duration: Full Time, Permanent

Location: Newry
